Corda Guitar Ensembles have a score and two sets of parts, unless otherwise indicated. Some of the pieces may have one part easier than the others, to accommodate players of mixed abilities. Please contact us if you want more detailed information about a particular piece. Extra parts can be ordered in any quantity required for large ensembles.

EL CHOCLO

One of the most famous of all Argentinian tangos, with plenty of melodic interest in all three parts Arrangement by Ian Gammie. Duration approx 3 minutes.

FASCINATION : ( arranged for 3 Guitars)

The beautiful haunting melody of this famous 19th century salon piece transcribes into a feast of nostalgic guitar sonorities. All three parts have thematic and supporting material at different stages, the music taking the form of a rondo with two episodes and a variation on the main theme. Arrangement by Ian Gammie. Duration approx 5 minutes.

TRIO PARA VIERNES SANTO : for 3 Guitars, by Ian Gammie

This is a meditation on the famous chorale from Bach's Matthew Passion O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden. Each instrument takes the theme in turn, while the other two instruments weave a sonorous and changing set of harmonies around it.

SONATA in D major: Diderich Becker (1674) arranged for 3 Guitars, by Ian Gammie

A fine baroque sonata da camara duration about 7 minutes. The central movement is built on a ground bass very similar to Pachelbel's Canon. A richly sonorous and rewarding work, which requires good dexterity in fast scale passages.

CMP 263

TANGO BETULÁCEO Trio (or Quartet) for mixed abilities, by Ian Gammie

A really zingy tango with Guitar 1 part at approx Grade 3 - 4 level, Guitars 2 and 3 rather easier. The 4th Guitar part is for chords, strumming rhythm. The majority of players in a larger ensemble should be concentrated on Guitars 1 and 2. Guitar 3 is also available in bass clef for a bass guitar ad lib. For use as a Trio, the piece is designed so that a teacher or director of ensemble can alternatively play Guitar 3 mixed with some strummed chords, while all other players take Guitars 1 and 2. This is a useful option for smaller ensembles or school groups of less experienced players. The piece is dedicated to Heather Taylor and her Guitar Ensemble from Huddersfield, England.

EL DESEMBRE CONGELAT (LA NIT DE NADAL) Trio or Quartet, setting by Ian Gammie

Suitable for a large ensemble or single instruments. A famous Catalan Christmas carol arranged with several variations so that the Guitar 1 part reaches to the 15th fret, but only with single notes, while Guitar 2 is considerably easier. Guitar 3 is a combination of two parts - a melodic line with a bass. This can be used by a teacher or experienced player acting as accompanist, or divided between two players thereby making a quartet. Extra parts are provided to allow for different modes of performance. The lowest part is also supplied in bass clef if a bass guitar is used (optional).

TWO BASQUE FOLKSONGS : ( arranged for 3 or 4 Guitars by Ian Gammie)

These two melodies - the slow, mournful Ainhara and the fiesta celebration Eromerian are for ensemble of mixed abilities, the Guitar 1 part being somewhat more difficult (Grade IV) than the other parts (Grade I - II). If played as a trio, Guitar 3 will need to incorporate the bass notes of the chords into the part to complete the harmony. There is an additional part for a bass instrument and strummed chord part ad lib.

A whizzing set of baroque divisions on a ground bass, suitable for ensembles of very mixed abilities. Parts are provided for several different performing versions: Guitar 1 can play all the difficult variations, or the variations can be shared between Guitars 1 and 2. Additionally there is an optional part which amalgamates both Guitars 2 and 3, so that it can be performed as a duet. The basic Guitar 2 part is much easier than the other parts. A bucolic burlesque, based on a scurrilous Hampshire pub song with musical quotations from all sorts of unlikely places, both folksy and classical; plenty of melodic interest for all three parts, the Guitar 1 being slightly harder than the other two. Dedicated to Derek Hasted wizard of both HTML and Hampshire Guitar Orchestra. Duration approx 6 minutes.

DANCERIES : Op 40b – by John Duarte

A set of four American dances - Beguine, Tango, Blues, Barn Dance. The maestro provides us with an excellent pastiche of four dance styles. There are three different performance options : the difficult version at the high octave takes one melodic part up to the 17th fret, the easy version stays at the lower octave. Scored for two melodic lines plus fully written out guitar accompaniment or chords if preferred. Requinto and bass guitar ad lib, all variant guitar parts provided in the basic edition.
